The SOMATHERAPY program is a specialised manual therapy program targeted at the treatment of the human fascial system and is based on osteopathic principles, The program is a clinician-based curriculum designed to teach the fundamentals of normalizing fluid flow in all fasciae and joints throughout the body. The program consists of 13 courses broken down into 4 areas: Osteo Articular Pumping, Fascia Normalization, TTLS, Treatment of 4 Diaphragms. Each course can be taken a’ la cart or as part of the full program.
Each seminar spans 3 days and is taught in 2 parts:
Part 1 (One Day Virtual at Home)
The theory & anatomy lecture will be taught by The Soma Therapy founder Guy VOYER, DO online via ZOOM.
Part 2 (Two Days In Person)
Practical classroom session where all the methodology of the techniques will be taught.
Osteo-articular Joint Pumping
Fluid, especially water, is a major element of the fasciae. The movement of this water is essential for tissue and joint health. Osteo Articular Pumping facilitates the movement of this fluid through the collagen tubes that make up the fascia of the ligaments, tendons, and muscles, it can also be used to stimulate the movement of water within a bursae, movement of the lymphatic and also the synovial fluid improving the function of a specific joint and surrounding tissue.
By applying the technique learned, the therapist can begin to manipulate the process of acute inflammation reducing recovery time, Osteo Articular Pumping can also be used to regenerate chronically painful and tight joints by mobilising stagnated fluid to improve mobility

Fascial Normalization
Fascial normalization will focus on the intrinsic quality of the fasciae and will address various fascial chains analytically breaking down to their components. Fascial chains can include direct links where there is a traceable continuity of the same tissue throughout the kinetic chain as well as indirect links where the contiguity of fascial tissue has a significant influence on the function of the chain. Water is constantly being linked and unlinked to glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans in the extra cellular matrix. This continual process of GEL and SOL of linking and unlinking of free and bound water is fundamental for not only for the health of the fasciae but also the health of the body as a whole.
TRANSVERSE TENDINOUS & LIGAMENTOUS “STRETCHING” (TTLS)
2TLS or (TTLS) Can directly correct orthopedic muscle, tendon and/or ligament dysfunction. But they are essential before any corrective structural manipulation. It is a technique that addresses the structural needs and sensory functions of tendons, ligaments and specific muscles. Its focus is to normalize mechanical tension in a contracted or shortened ligament, tendons and muscles by creating a temporary inhibition in their protective mechanism.
Specialized sensory cells in ligaments, tendons and muscles provide constant feedback to the central nervous system. The higher proportion of collagen fibers and specialized sensory cells found in tendons, ligaments and muscles call for a different treatment strategy than other fascial tissue with a lower proportion of fibers or sensory cells. Therapists who learn TTLS techniques acquire the skills to:
1.) Increase vascularisation of the tissues by treating tendons, ligaments and muscles
2.) Affect the quality of sensory input from the tendon, ligament or muscle to the central nervous system, thereby increasing the overall quality and function of the tendon, ligament or muscle that is acutely or chronically injured.

TREATMENT OF THE 4 DIAPHRAGMS
The human body has 4 main diaphragms (thoracic, pelvic, cervico-thoracic and cranial). The relational balance between these normalizes the pressures and movement of all venous, arterial and lymphatic fluids and hormonal functions of the body.
The diaphragm series comprises of 4 seminars one for each of the primary diaphragms. During these seminars you will learn how to apply the techniques learned from the previous seminars (osteo-articular pumping, fascial normalization and TTLS) to manage the tension, expansion and compression in the head, thorax, abdomen and pelvis leading to a complete tensegrity model of the body. The course also explores how the proper management and functioning of these structures effect the function of all related viscera.
